Big Pike - Attempt No 1 (Llyn Brenig)

Brenig Pike Festival

Day one with my brother in the boat. For once thankfully Hurrican Catrina is not sweeping through Snowdonia and although it's heavy showers all day the waves aren't too bad and we can drift pretty easily through the areas we want to. Much quieter aswell, probably because the weather and mixed results are causing people to give up.

After the usual cooked brekky, we give the new approach a go. Two rods each, one heavy (4lbs tc; multiplier and 60lb braid) for Bull Dawgs and one light for Rapalas etc.

Results not too bad - two pike of 6lbs and 4lbs; the first on a Rapala which has caught every year we've fished it and the second on a mammoth disco Bull Dawg. The static boys seem have done better though with a few doubles to 14-15lbs coming out.

Good day out though and I'd forgotten how beautiful the place is even though I trout fish it 4-5 times a year aswell.

Same again tomorrow but I'm taking a work colleague who's never fished before which could be interesting.
